Founded in 2018 by Tristan Reger and Fernanda Ríos, Terra Guatemala is a local travel agency specializing in tailor-made trips in Central America. Our Antigua-based team designs authentic and responsible trips, prioritizing encounters with local communities, environmental respect, and promotion of traditional know-how.
Member of Terra Panamerica, we benefit from the expertise of an international network while maintaining our identity as a local agency deeply rooted in Guatemalan territory.
Living in Guatemala since 2018
Terra Guatemala is not an online agency operating remotely. Our team lives and works in Guatemala, in Antigua, a colonial city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This permanent local presence allows us to react in real time, adjust itineraries according to field conditions, and support our travelers before, during and after their stay.
Since our establishment in 2018, we have organized over 500 tailor-made trips, explored Guatemala extensively, and built a solid network of reliable local partners. Every accommodation and activity we propose has been personally tested by our team.
Geographic expertise
Before creating Terra Guatemala, our founders explored the country for more than 6 months, traveling through each region to identify the best experiences. Today, our team constantly travels to the field to keep this knowledge updated.
Regions covered
Highlands and volcanoes: Antigua and its three volcanoes, Lake Atitlán and Mayan villages, Quetzaltenango and hot springs, Chichicastenango market.
Petén and jungle: Tikal (one of the largest Mayan cities), Yaxhá (less frequented but spectacular), Flores and Lake Petén Itzá, hidden archaeological sites deep in the jungle.
Connected destinations: Belize (Caribbean coast, Great Blue Hole), Honduras (Copán), El Salvador (volcanoes and Pacific beaches), Mexico (combined Chiapas-Yucatán circuits).
Member of recognized international networks
Terra Panamerica
Terra Guatemala is part of Terra Panamerica, an alliance of 6 local agencies specialized in North and Central America. This network enables coordinated multi-country trips, shared expertise between local agencies, uniform quality standards, and a common commitment to responsible tourism.
Our approach to responsible tourism
Terra Guatemala doesn’t just organize trips. We actively commit to limiting our environmental impact, promoting local crafts and traditional know-how, donating to Casasito association (supporting local communities), and encouraging respectful travel practices.
We work daily with Mayan families for authentic immersions, textile artisans perpetuating ancestral techniques, trained and fairly paid local guides, and small charming accommodations run by Guatemalans.
Partners and quality standards
Reliable partner network
In 6 years of operation, we have built a solid network of trusted partners: 50+ tested and approved accommodations (charming hotels, ecolodges, homestays), 30+ certified French and English-speaking local guides, experienced drivers with recent and insured vehicles, and local activity agencies.
Quality and safety
All our vehicles are insured and regularly maintained. Our guides are certified by the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT). We have professional liability insurance, safety protocols for volcanic ascents, and real-time tracking of all our travelers.
Our trip design method
Extreme personalization
Every Terra Guatemala trip is unique. We don’t offer fixed packages but tailor-made creations adapted to your interests (culture, nature, adventure, gastronomy), your pace, your budget, and your group composition.
Our process includes first contact under 48 hours, unlimited adjustments until complete satisfaction, detailed travel notebook before departure, 24/7 availability on-site via WhatsApp, email and phone, and post-trip follow-up for continuous improvement.
Signature experiences
Over the years, we have developed exclusive experiences that have become our signatures.
Night at Acatenango volcano refuge
Ascent to 3,600 meters altitude to spend the night in a mountain refuge. At the summit, gathered around a campfire, observe spectacular eruptions of Fuego volcano. The incandescent red in the night offers an unforgettable spectacle.
Sunrise at Tikal
Privileged access to the archaeological site before official opening. Walk under the stars in a mysterious atmosphere. Dawn light pierces through the foliage while howler monkeys and birds awaken. Extraordinary visual and sound spectacle.
Homestay immersion
Stay with a Mayan family to participate in daily life: coffee harvesting, tortilla making, farm work. Authentic exchanges about traditions, language and contemporary lifestyle of indigenous communities.
Secret coves of Lake Atitlán
Discovery of small coves accessible only by boat, far from tourist circuits. Local fishermen share their ancestral techniques. Sunset observation over the volcanoes in a preserved setting.
Our on-site team in Antigua
Our team of French-speaking travel advisors based in Antigua personally knows every accommodation and activity offered, regularly travels to the field to test new offerings, speaks fluent French, Spanish and English, responds within 48 hours maximum, and is available 24/7 during your trips.
Our combined expertise includes native Mexican and Guatemalan knowledge, years of experience in Central American receptive tourism, specialization in the Mayan world (history, culture, languages), deep understanding of local fauna and flora, and mastery of multi-country circuits.
